When it Feels Like You're Living in Chaos

There has been so much going on lately. So much negativity and bad. Our world is incredibly heavy right now.

Sometimes I feel as if I can’t take

One.

More.

Thing.

As if Satan is hurling arrows at me - one after the other.

My heart is breaking for the way the people of Ukraine are being slaughtered right now. The images I’m seeing on the news are almost unbearable. There are so many tragic stories of people pleading for help and trying to escape. There are so many stories of courage & bravery, devastation & destruction. I cannot begin to fathom what they must be feeling.

A couple of weeks ago a town in Iowa near my in-laws was hit by a monster tornado. There was a lot of destruction and several lives were lost. A young woman there lost her husband, two children, and her mother, and she is in critical condition herself. I cannot imagine the heartbreak and despair she is feeling right now.

When we find our world in the chaos that it is in right now, I can do nothing better than to point you to the One who created the universe - the One who holds it all in His palm. When I have no words of my own to make sense of the tragedies, I give you His words:

Psalm 46: 1-11

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
