Living in Community

I’ve always been fascinated by science and animals. I know so many useless facts because I spent hundreds of hours watching the Discovery channel as a kid (no exaggeration). While some animals are loners and thrive by living solitary lives, God made many animals who live in community in order to survive. These animals sick together and work together because it’s crucial for their survival.

Did you know:

  • A hive of honey bees can consist of up to 60,000 bees. Each bee has a specific job that contributes to the overall success of the hive.

  • Zebras have excellent eyesight - but don't really have a good sense of smell. Ostriches have a great sense of smell but not-so-great eyesight.

So these two species hang out together, relying on the sight of the zebra and the smell of the ostriches to steer clear of predators.

  • Canadian Geese use the flying V formation for migrating long distances. If the leader at the head of the V gets tired or sick, another goose will take its place to lead the flock. The geese rotate the leadership and watch out for each other.

  • Pistol Shrimp have poor eyesight which makes them vulnerable to predators. Gobies (a kind of fish) have good eyesight and act as a “seeing eye fish” for the shrimp. The shrimp keeps its antenna on the tail fin of the gobie, and the gobie signals to the shrimp when danger is near. When dangerous predators are near, the shrimp shares its burrow with the gobie fish, giving them both a place to hide.

Just like the amazing creatures in the animal world that God created, we rely on each other in the body of Christ.

Romans 12:5 says “so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

When you are serving, you are part of a team. It is no accident or coincidence that God has placed you in this ministry, at this time. We work in unison to serve the body of Christ and those outside the body of Christ. I want you to remember that each one of us matters -there are no unimportant jobs. When you are gone, there is a void.

When we pray together, share in each others’ lives, mourn, celebrate, and serve together, we are encouraging and reminding each other of the love of Jesus. You need us - and we need you!
